Recent Improvements

Before Isabel embarked on her Recovery Program she had extremely weak abdominals, no bladder or bowel control, could occasionally activate a hip flexor , had a severe spinal curvature, and had been recommended surgery to alleviate tightening of the hamstrings. The specialists considered her Spinal Injury as ‘complete’.

Since Isabel has been actively working towards recovery she has/can.:

  • Avoided surgery on her hamstrings
  • Reduced the curvature of her spine
  • Developed an awareness of full bladder and bowel
  • Developed the ability to engage bladder control
  • Developed the ablilty to flex each of her feet repeatedly
  • Engage hip flexors to complete more than 50 reps of leg lifts
  • Engage her hamstring muscles
  • Engage her abductor leg muscles
  • Able to complete sets of 10 sit ups with minimal support
  • Walked across the pool putting each leg in front of the other
  • Is able to crawl bringing each knee forward on demand

Every week is different – sometimes there are momentous gains, some weeks isabel’s progress plateaus. Her potential has not been realised as she continues to grow, and her own stem cells facilitate recovery as they are engaged in physical activity.

The clinical evidence internationally supports that the developments in Isabel’s physical functioning are due to activity – simply – use it or lose it.

Isabel has her whole life ahead of her. She deserves the chance to live the most independent and healthy life.
