Deborah Welsh

Deborah is a Director and the Secretary of the Wish to Walk Foundation, joining as a founding member in 2008.

Before being offered the opportunity to join the Wish to Walk Foundation, my experience with not-for-profit organisations was with The Alannah and Madeline Foundation. I began as the first Finance Officer, in the days when the organisation numbered 3 paid staff and a few volunteers. Later, I was given the opportunity to head a Case Management Team working at first hand with “our children” and their families. The dedication and desire of the team in the early days rubbed off on me fairly quickly and over the 5 1/2 years at the Foundation I experienced everything from radio interviews, organising fundraising events, cajoling individuals and corporations into supporting our goals and dressing up as a purple bear….all with the aim of supporting children and teenagers who were victims of violence.

I hope that my understanding of what is required to build a not-for-profit will be of value to the Wish to Walk Foundation and will give the most remarkable young lady who is at the heart of this foundation every opportunity to make her wish come true.
